Earning Credits/Class policies

Welcome Mr. Hanson's Class!

This web-page is meant to inform you how easy it is to earn credits and to move forward in your academic career.  Click on any of the links below for resources needed to complete the class, or simply click here, or on "resources" on the left tab. My goal is that every senior graduates; you simply need the drive and motivation to complete your work on a day to day basis.  Here's how we do it!!

For the first 5 minutes of each period
, you will write the "learning Goal" that we will be covering for that day on the Learning Goal Reflection Sheet.  The last five minutes of class we will review the "Learning Goal" and you will complete a five sentence paragraph explaining the learning goal in your own words.

Tuesday's through Thursday's students will work on an activity which counts as one assignment toward the 12 that they need for their credit. This assignment relates to the learning goal, and is based on a California State Standard for Government or Economics. On Mondays and Fridays, students work individually on Mandatory assignments and make up work on the particular credit they are working toward.  Links to each credit are posted on the left of this page.  Students can click on these links to view all of the book assignments and projects for each individual credit.  Aside from what we do in class each week, students choose from the assignments listed to fulfill their credit obligation of 12 assignments and twelve learning goal entries.

How do I earn a Credit?

So how do you earn a credit?  The answer is simple:

You must have 12 Learning Goal Reflection Paragraphs and 12 Assignments including the mandatory assignmentA record ofthese assignments should be kept on your "Credit Completion Update Sheet."

Each daily assignment = 1 assignment credit.

12 assignments (including mandatory assignment for each credit) + 12 Learning Goal Reflections = 1 credit

If you do one assignment and one Learning Goal Paragraph each day, you can earn a credit every two weeks!!

On individual workdays (Mondays and Fridays), you should work on assignments aligned specifically to the credit you are working on.  Each credit has one assignment that is mandatory for you to complete before you can earn that particular credit.  All other assignments carry with them an amount of assignments credit that generally equates to 1 assignment per hour.  Hence if you choose to do a project that requires 2 days of work, or, 2 hours, it would be worth "2 assignments".  Worksheets are generally worth 1 assignment a piece (front and back = 1 assignment).

Attendance and Grading Policy

Attendance:
Tardies:
All classes are consistent with the school's policy regarding tardies.
Absences: You are not allowed to make up daily class assignments missed due to absences. However, you must make arrangements with me to make up the "learning goal".

Grading:
You must get all assignments stamped off daily to receive credit for that day's assignment.  There are no "making up" assignments missed due to absence. Each daily assignment is worth 1 assignment credit, unless stated otherwise by Mr. Hanson.  Assignments completed on independent work days, and at home will be graded when you turn in your credit (once you have 12 assignments including your mandatory.).  All of your work should be listed on your "Credit Completion Update Sheet."  Your work will be graded for a letter grade the first time you turn it in, and recieve a letter grade of "C" or better based on the following scale.

  • 90- 100% = A
  • 80-89%     = B
  • 70 - 79%   = C

Any work turned in that is assessed at less than "C" quality, will be returned to the student so that he or she can make corrections to bring it to a "C" level.  This will be the grade assigned to that credits. Credit values will be averaged at the end of the semester for the final letter grade equivalent.
