British Literature

Introduction



Welcome to British Literature, a senior-level course featuring beginning senior-level works of fiction and non-fiction from the 18th through 20th centuries. You will develop skills in reading and analysis, writing, research, oral presentations, and vocabulary development.

Course Objectives

  • To master the California English Language Arts Standards for the 12th grade level.
  • To further develop the English language arts skills necessary to pass the English portion of college entrance exams
  • To encourage a lifelong love of language, literature and learning.

    • Oliver Twist by Charles Dickens - A novel about the Industrial Age in Britian
    • Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen - the writer who introduced the formula for the "chick flick"
    • Beowulf - author unknown
    • Canterbury Tales - Geoffrey Chaucer
    • Hamlet, Macbeth, Midsummer Night's Dream - William Shakespeare
