Parent Involvement

VolunteersTop of Page

Chaparral High and Vista Schools continue to build parent/group home advocates and community involvement via an effective means of communication to all stakeholders and by participating in community events with a positive message of the forward movement of the Ed Jones Educational Center's work:

A. Keep the school's website updated, train teachers to create their web pages and keep the site current:

1) Post the yearly calendar, weekly newsletter, "In the News" spotlight articles, students of the month, leadership activities, description of programs offered.

2) Parent-student handbook

3) Current listing of staff positions and contact information with links to teacher webpages

4) List the website's address in all mailings to the home in order to encourage its use as valuable source of home-school communication and support.

B. Send communications home through weekly newsletter emails as well as Edulink messages to Chaparral and Vista homes to ensure that parents are kept current on the happenings of their child's school and to promote attendance at school events such as Back-To-School night, parent conferences, etc. Maintain an open door policy for concerns and to encourage face-to-face communication.

C. Encourage parents to be involved through School Site Council representation, ELAC/DELAC, DAC, Open House night, student fundraisers, and parent-teacher conferences. Provide incentives for attendance at big events. Invite parent speakers for career issues and current events/causes such as breast cancer awareness. Parents are required to attend a parent student orientation meeting before a student is permitted to enroll.

D. Continue to submit student work to local community events and then attend as a representative of our school (i.e. Art contests, San Dimas Day at the fair, Rotary grant opportunities, etc.

E. Submit spotlight articles to the local newspapers that communicate the positive forward movement of the school
